What size are standard d6 dice?

The standard size of a d6 is 16mm, approximately 0.6 inches. However, dice manufacturers offer variations, such as 14mm and 18mm d6 for those who prefer slightly smaller or larger options. Games like Warhammer 40k utilise 12mm d6 as this makes it easier to hold and roll multiple dice simultaneously.

Why do people use different sized dice?

People use different sized dice for various reasons. Larger dice are often favoured because it is easier to see the outcome on a larger die. On the flip side, some opt for smaller dice for the novelty or the fun of rolling numerous tiny dice. Dice size choices in tabletop gaming often reflect personal preferences and the unique dynamics each player enjoys during their gaming experience.

How do you measure the size of dice?

To measure the size of dice accurately, a digital calliper in millimetre mode is ideal. Place the die securely within the calliper’s clasp, ensuring it's positioned squarely, and take the measurement for precise readings.

What size dice should I get?

Consider what feels comfortable in your hands and enhances your overall enjoyment of the game. Some players enjoy the heft and feel of larger dice, finding them more satisfying to roll, while others prefer the convenience and portability of smaller dice.
